The Lighthouses’ New Look One of America's’ iconic lighthouses received a makeover earlier this month, and it’s looking sharper than ever! The Harbour Town Lighthouse has become a well-known structure thanks to the RBC Heritage annual golf tournament. You can find this destination on the beautiful Hilton Head Island of South Carolina. To celebrate their 50th anniversary of the golf tournament, the staff gave the lighthouse a whole new look: Plaid! They covered the famous candy-cane striped building in a new layer of plaid to match the patterns of the golfers. They created this pattern using removable vinyl that was about half a mile long. "Why," you ask? Big things are worth celebrating! Over the past 50 years, this has grown to be a huge event with…

My wife Gail and I were introduced to David Love in 2012 by friends that had purchased a home in Palmetto Dunes. We were interested in finding a villa to purchase as a vacation home with short term rentals. We made two or three trips to Hilton Head to vacation and look at potential villas with the assistance of David. We enjoyed working with him over the months that it took to locate a villa and we did purchase in Palmetto Dunes in the spring of 2013. We kept our search to Sea Pines and Palmetto Dunes and found David's knowledge of these areas and the market to be spot on. He did not waste our time with places that were outside of our means or were in a condition that we would not have been able to move right in. One of the best things was once we…

"Welcome 2018 RBC Heritage Classic Volunteer". This title brings wonderful emotions and great memories from golf tournaments past. My earlier days of volunteering were as a young girl in the 1970s. I was a Standard Bearer and proudly carried the score sign for many notable golfers of that era. I enjoyed it so much, that I continued as a standard bearer while I was a student for four years at The University of South Carolina. I was paid $15 a day for my 'job' back then. Don't tell them, but I would have done it for free. We young volunteers would ride our bikes to the course first thing in the morning and stay all day. We would gather at the finish of 18th to gather autographs and collect golf balls given to us by the pros. Fast forward many years and…

That is the response after asking residents: “What brought you here?”

I am deeply impressed about the stories from people who were on vacation with their parents when the lighthouse wasn’t even built. And I am keen to get to know how did they discover this place.

You may know that the history of Hilton Head Island goes a long way back and was named after Captain William Hilton in 1663 but I am thinking about how this Island became

the # 1 island in the USA and the #2 in the world. The success of Hilton Head Island starts with Sea Pines and the story of Sea Pines starts with Charles Fraser.

In 1950 Hilton Head Island had only one paved street and nothing else, not even electricity.

Charles Fraser saw potential in the dense…

I'm delighted to report, Hilton Head Island's real estate market for 2017, was healthy and posted positive sales numbers year-over-year. We had more buyers falling in love and following through on their dreams than we've seen in years, resulting in an 8.8 percent increase in homes sold island-wide. The irresistible draw of the island's active lifestyle raised the median price for a home on Hilton Head by 3 percent to $535,000.

Several of our oceanfront communities had outstanding years with double digit gains to their median home values. They include Sea Pines, Shipyard, Palmetto Dunes and Folly Field.

Island-wide, the villa market had a successfully busy year with a 19.3 percent increase in sales transactions. The median price of a villa rose…

Sea Pines Home

After more than 30 years, and using the latest technology available, FEMA has finally updated and released their highly anticipated preliminary Flood Insurance Rate Map (FIRM) for Beaufort County showing how a 100-year flood event is likely to impact your property. As a result, big changes are in the making for flood insurance requirements on a number of properties around Hilton Head Island, including Sea Pines Plantation. Homes that are presently required to carry flood insurance for mortgage purposes will no longer have that requirement if they're located in FEMA's newly created Zone X (Shaded and Unshaded).

Homes in Zone X (Shaded and Unshaded) are being reclassified onto higher ground with a moderate to minimal risk of flooding. This creates…
