After Susan's father retired as President of Sherwin Williams Company S.A. in 1969, the entire family spend the next three months visiting every coastal town from the Florida panhandle to Wilmington, NC in order to find the perfect place to write the next chapter of their lives. Shortly thereafter, I transferred from St. Paul's School in Sao Paulo, Brazil to Hilton Head Island. College took her to the University of South Carolina, where she earned her Bachelor's degree, majoring in economics and marketing, which a minor in German. Her professional banking career began with the startup of the Bankers Mortgage office on Hilton Head, progressed on to Atlanta and culminated in Zurich as a private Swiss banker. In 2000, Susan, with her two young sons, returned to Hilton Head - to the one place we truly call home. Hard to believe that the RBC Heritage presented by Boeing is less than one month away. It is exciting that we will  have THREE trolleys this year, red green and blue with 3 different routes. I have attached wonderful photos of the routes and stops. Red route is Club Course Drive, Sea Pines Country Club, Club Course Villas, Bateau Road, Plantation/Calibogue Cay Road and Harbour Town Playground on inbox. When I think of horses and equestrian facilities, I think Sea Pines, Oldfield but mainly Rose Hill. We had a wonderful opportunity as Realtors to attend an open house presenting their new clubhouse. It was not renovated but a brand new building. Gorgeous back porch and inviting entryway, spacious bar and rooms that can be separate for different meetings. The 18-hole is a public course with daily fees. No mandatory membership for Rose Hill property owners. Considering buying a beach house can not only be a delightful vacation place for you and your family, but also afford an income stream and can bring favorable return on investment. Many beach house investors buy houses that are rented out during peak season and personally use when not rented. I suppose there will be a lot of Blogs this week. Many of us have been sitting tight watching Florence change direction, speed and course throughout the last few days. We had Governor McMaster issue a mandatory evacuation for ALL coastal South Carolina counties on Monday, only to have it lifted on Tuesday. I had buyers coming and they did not know WHAT to do. Showings were done only to folks already on the island and my desk time was too quiet for comfort. Praying that as Florence makes landfall today, that lives are spared and property damage not be a burden to carry.

Here we are almost at Summer's end. Some schools in the area have already begun and we can see some winding down of visitors in some restaurants, beaches and shops. The lazy hazy days of Summer have traditionally not been active busy months for buyers. That is no longer the case. People are more interested in inquiring and purchasing real estate this year than in the previous five. Hilton Head winning Travel and Leisure's best island in the US (#1) for a third year in a row has opened some eyes to the abundance of activities and opportunities on this island. Mobility - some us take it for granted. Having grown up with a sister 5 years older that relied on a wheelchair or someone carrying her, I am really excited to announce a CSA - Sea Pines service!!

CSA has purchased an all-terrain wheelchair equipped with heavy duty wheels making it easier to travel through the sand. It is now available to Sea Pines Property owners to use at Tower Beach (exclusively for Sea Pines Property owners and their guests).

LoggerheadonJune112018

There is a new mania on the island! I walk my dog Cashew every morning on the beaches of Sea Pines for the past 7 years. Tourists get excited about coming here and we residents get excited about the sea turtles nesting. This morning we caught a glimpse of a mom laying her eggs and caught her going back into the ocean. See photo below. According to www.seaturtle.org/nestdb/?view_beach=73 which is Hilton Head, we currently have 57 loggerhead nests, 27 false crawls and 1 green turtle nest. They have had to relocate 17 nests so far and 41 are "In Situ", which I suppose mean they remain where she buried them.

The Coastal Discovery Museum will introduce a new program in June Through August every THURSDAY at 1 p.m. Sea turtles live an extraordinary life.

This upcoming weekend is Mother's Day on May 13th. A lot of children come visit their aging parents residing on Hilton Head Island. That is NOT the day to have mom cook so going out to eat lunch or dinner will be a treat for mom. Do try and make reservations.

Did you know that Savannah has the second largest Irish population in the United States? Their St. Patrick's Day parade is over 194 years old and is one of the largest and most recognized parades in the world, winding through the streets of Historic Savannah every March 17th. When I was a high schooler, we did not have a parade on Hilton Head (more on that later), so we used to skip school and go to Savannah to their parade (mind you, I only did that one year because I did not want to get in trouble so I waited until my senior year to go). 

Hilton Head now has its own St. Patrick's Day parade, thanks to Tom Reilley, The Beckers and a few other friends. In our town of about 40,000 permanent residents, we can find upwards of 25,000 spectators at our

Lawton Stables, The Sea Pines Resort's popular equestrian center, has a new management team to operate its horseback riding tours, pony rides, boarding facilities and small animal farm. Many of these activities are so loved by our residents and guests as well as visitors to Sea Pines and Hilton Head Island.

The Sea Pines Resort owns the 21-acre complex, which is well loved by residents and visitors alike. There is a serene sense when driving along Greenwood Drive and seeing the horses to one side and a community farm on the other.
