Nothing about this RBC Heritage Presented by Boeing golf tournament was normal.

So maybe it was fitting that the eventual champion was a steady presence who knows this golf course as well as anyone.

In the end, Webb Simpson punched through a tightly packed leaderboard fueled by unprecedented low scoring to win Sunday at Harbour Town Golf Links. He finished 22-under-par 262 to beat a group that included a charging Daniel Berger, Sergio Garcia and Brooks Koepka.

The winning total was a record, beating Brian Gay’s 20-under 264 finish in 2009.

More than Simpson’s course knowledge was experience in contention and knowing how he would react as birdies flew, he said.

One of the most exciting events associated with Hilton Head Island for the past 51 years has been the RBC Heritage PGA golf tournament. This event that takes place attracts people from all different age groups providing a week long of fun in the sun that won't be forgotten! In the spirit of reminiscing on some great heritage memories I decided to ask one of my best friends from college to reflect on his first Heritage experience!

This incredible climate boasts an average temperature of 70 degrees during the spring, making outdoor activities extremely popular! Such activities might consist of walks on the beach, 18 holes of golf, tennis, or my favorite…fishing! Springtime fishing is one of the most versatile fishing seasons the Low Country has to offer. The species targeted range from redfish, sea trout, sheepshead, black drum, weakfish, sea bass, flounder, cobia, kingfish, and Spanish mackerel.
