Many folks are aware of our Harbour Town golf links because of the wonderful PGA Tour's Heritage Golf tournament. Designed by one of the greatest golf architects of all time, Mr. Pete Dye. When I heard the news of Mr. Dye's passing while watching a PFA event of TV I could not help but ponder what a tremendous impact he had on Sea Pines Resort. His design of Harbour Town Golf Links has withstood the test of time. With golf balls that go further than ever, with equipment that pushes the limits of physics and with professional athletes who are on the tour being some of the strongest athletes in the world Harbour Town has stood firm as an amazing test for any golfer, professional and amateur alike. Pete Dye also designed Heron Point at the Plantation Golf Club. Heron Point was South Carolina's 2015 Golf Course of the Year. Pete Dye also designed another course you may know , TPC Sawgrass which is home to the Players Championship Tournament on the PGA Tour.

On January 9, 2020 Pete Dye passed away leaving behind an amazing legacy. Considered to be one of the most important golf course architects of all time we are blessed to have two of his golf course designs here in the Sea Pines Resort. Being an avid golfer and being blessed to play both of his courses in Sea Pines I often wondered if Mr. Dye intended some of the design challenges with just me in mind. Seriously though his designs are wonderful on so many levels and if you truly love the game of golf as a player you need to play both of these courses. In addition to the golf courses we also have the Pete Dye Room located at the Harbour Town Links Clubhouse. Here is how the Sea Pines Resort website describes it:

"The Pete Dye Room, located in the Harbour Town Clubhouse, is a celebration of the life and work of the preeminent course designer of the modern era.

The comprehensive museum explores the close relationship between Dye and the much-acclaimed Harbour Town Golf Links, hailed by former Golfweek architecture editor Brad Klein as "one of the most innovative and revolutionary designs in the history of golf architecture." The course opened to great fanfare 50 years ago and has been challenging - and delighting - players ever since. "Harbour Town made my career," Dye recently said.

Within the museum you'll find innovative exhibits, videos, photographs and awards that chronicle Dye's brilliant career and offer insight into his philosophy and work ethic. Visitors also will learn how his process as a builder revolutionized course design and changed the game."

Sea Pines Resort offers 3 of the most amazing courses in the world. Two of the courses are Mr. Pete Dye's. The Pete Dye Room offers true insight into Dye's designs and career. For tee times and additional information please contact the Pro Shop Staff at the Plantation Golf Club-843-842-1477 or a Sea Pines Resort Golf Specialist at (843) 842-8484.

The game of golf will certainly miss Pete Dye but his memory will live on in his amazing designs throughout the U.S.A. , the World & inside Sea Pines Resort.
