An easy way to discern the health of an ecosystem is to observe the habits and well-being of an indicator species living in that environment such as the Wood Stork in Sea Pines Plantation. These birds are highly sensitive to their environments and they are thriving at the Sea Pines Resort.

The Wood Stork is a large bird standing three feet tall with a wing span of five feet. Adults weigh to 4-6 pounds. This is North America's only breed of stork and it's estimated there are 30,000 living between Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina. Our North American breed is distinct from those found in the Caribbean, Central and South America where their population reaches to 250,000.    It's encouraging to hear…

The concept of using images and video footage in real estate showcase videos isn’t new, but it has been proven to be a very effective way to showcase a property to prospective buyers. So, what is a new, effective, and underutilized method of marketing a property today? One of the newest, and I would argue most effective, methods is the use of drone technology for video and still images.

In the last couple of years, drone technology has rapidly evolved. As an example, just about two years ago, if you wanted an aerial image, there were basically only a couple of options; 1) Hire a professional helicopter pilot who could take pictures or video while flying over your property; or 2) Hire a person who knew how to assemble electrical components, solder

THE 3 BIG REASONS I MOVED TO HILTON HEAD ISLAND…

 1.  After spending 32 years in the cold Michigan winters, I decided enough was enough.  Shoveling snow out of the driveway over and over again got old.  Coming to a stop light on top of a hill and suddenly realize you are slowly siding backwards down the hill out of control.  Losing power for a week due to a blizzard and you didn't make it to the store in time.   And lastly, that 40 degree below zero wind chill the winter of 1981 confirmed it.

 2.  I had an opportunity to do a temporary assignment with an Ad Agency here on the Island.  I had been here on vacation the year prior, so I didn't need to think long.  The opportunity turned into a full time permanent position!!

3. Plus I knew that

Our island is so beautiful!  Hurricane Matthew took a giant swat at us in October, but we are recovering rapidly.  Much of the debris stacked on the side of the road has been removed and we are getting back to normal.

When I first came back from the evacuation, it was so sad to see so many trees down.  The town of Hilton Head Island estimates we lost about 160,000 trees on our island and yet we have an amazing number left. The island is as beautiful as ever.  One of my first memories on returning is walking north on the beach, looking left and seeing our dunes gone and evidence of boardwalks torn up and trees down.  Then I turned to the right and there was our gorgeous ocean and I knew we were going to be okay.

The spec home market is beginning to flourish again on Hilton Head Island

The spec home market is beginning to flourish again on Hilton Head Island with new construction going up everywhere. One of the big appeals of this market is buyers can purchase a brand new home without the hassle and expense of finding a lot, designing the house with an architect and getting the approval from the Town and the ARB. With fewer homesites available spec homes will be in strong demand especially with non resident buyers who want new but don't have the time to build from scratch. Prices for these homes range from $700,000 to over $2,000,000 near the beaches. Please call me for all the exciting details!!  843-384-6789

Having food allergies can be a challenge in everyday life but vacationing with food allergies can be downright frustrating. I understand these challenges more than anyone. I tell people I'm allergic to food, which is an exaggeration. However, I am allergic to a lot of foods including eggs, olives (olive oils), apples, dairy and gluten.

The good news is if you suffer from food allergies like me, Hilton Head Island has many allergy friendly dining options to accommodate. Let me share a few of my favorites:

1.  Delishee Yo - 32 Palmetto Bay Road

They offer green juices, organic salads and sandwiches (they use rice paper to make my favorite wrap gluten free)  My favorite is their homemade hummus. P.S. Take notice of the garden as you enter.
