Steady As She Goes!

Living in the Island paradise that is Hilton Head surrounded by water, it brings to mind how once nautical terms and expressions have become normal in everyday language. At one time everyone who came to America arrived by boat. This trip could take up to 2 months so it was inevitable that the sailor's jargon and expressions became used in everyday language. 

For example:
“Batten down the hatches”-  Battens were old pieces of sail made square with wooden frames and used to cover openings (hatches) in the deck during storms or heavy seas.

Congratulations to Wesley Bryan, the 49th winner of the RBC Heritage Golf Tournament on Hilton Head Island - April 2017.  He is the first South Carolinian to ever win the tournament!  We are “South Carolina proud” and look forward to watching this fine athlete compete in future tournaments.
